Privacy policy

This site is a set of static pages. It has no forms and no accounts, and you are not asked to enter anything. It does measure visits, and that part uses cookies.

Measuring visits

Visits are measured with Google Analytics. It places two cookies in your browser, _ga and _ga_W8QE41T40G, and they last up to two years. The first holds a random identifier for the browser, so repeat visits from the same browser are counted as one visitor rather than several. It is not linked to a name. Google holds the data on its servers, which are outside the UAE, and processes it on our instructions.

What it records is which pages opened, which of them were scrolled to the bottom, clicks on links that lead elsewhere, plays of the YouTube video embedded on the inflight series page, which site or message referred you, and your browser and device type. Your IP address is used to estimate a location, city level at best, and is not stored. No name, email address, or anything else that identifies you personally is sent, because the site never asks for any.

The reason it is here is narrow. The inflight series page is a proposal sent to a small number of organisations, and this is how we see whether it was read to the bottom.

Event data is kept for two months. Data tied to the browser identifier is kept for fourteen months, counted from that browser's most recent visit.

On a first visit, a notice asks for a choice. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, this measurement stays off unless it is accepted. Everywhere else it runs unless it is declined. The choice is remembered in the browser and can be changed here.

Change my cookie choice

Blocking it works. A tracker-blocking extension, or Google's official opt-out extension, stops this measurement and changes nothing else. Blocking third-party requests stops it too, and also stops the typefaces and the embedded players described below from loading, so those pages fall back to a system font and show no player.

Embedded players

The inflight series page embeds one YouTube video and two Spotify episodes. Opening that page loads them from YouTube and Spotify, each of which sets its own cookies and receives your IP address. What they do with it is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one. No other page on the site embeds a player.

Links sent directly

A link sent to a particular organisation may carry a short tag, so we can see which invitation was opened. The tag identifies the link, not you.

Hosting logs

The pages are served by Netlify, and the hosting service keeps technical logs of each request: IP address, browser type and the time of the visit. Those logs are part of running any site on the internet. They are not used here to track individuals.

Fonts

Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your IP address reaches Google when a page opens. Blocking third-party requests in your browser prevents that.

Getting in touch

Contact happens by email or WhatsApp. Whatever you write stays in that inbox or in WhatsApp. It is not passed to this site.
